How to spot a fake deal
- Check the price history. A "list price" that only existed for a few days isn't a real discount; a price tracker shows the truth.
- Every 1500 W heater costs the same to run. "Eco" and "energy-saving" labels don't create more heat per watt; a thermostat and timer are what save money.
- Check safety features. Tip-over and overheat protection and a UL, ETL or CSA mark. The 3-foot rule still applies.
- Old and new pint ratings differ. Dehumidifiers are now rated on the 2019 DOE test, so an old "50 pint" label and a new "35 pint" one can be similar.
