How to spot a fake deal
- Check the price history. Which? found that 92% of the Black Friday deals it tracked in 2024 were the same price or cheaper at other times of the year. A price tracker shows if the "was" price is real.
- Compare the exact model. Brands sell near-identical units under different names; compare litres per day and wattage, not the headline.
- Ignore "up to 50 litres" claims. Box figures are measured in warm, humid lab conditions. In a cold British winter a 12L unit removes less, and that's normal.
- Look at running costs, not just price. At 26.32p/kWh, a 190 W compressor model costs about 5.0p an hour; a 650 W desiccant about 17.1p.
Which type do you need?
